Cole Parmer 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler

Cole Parmer 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler

Have you ever dreamed of a PCR thermal cycler for your lab but dismissed that idea due to lack of space? Then you should better get to know the 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler made by Cole Parmer. This PCR machine combines maximum performance with a very small footprint.

Who’s Cole Parmer?

Cole Parmer was founded as a distribution company for laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies by Jerry Cole and John Parmer in 1955. They started business in a small shop in downtown Chicago and did not even possess the capital for hiring further employees. Instead, the two of them provided their customers with high-quality technical assistance and customer services that were and still are second to none. Their success proved them right and soon the company expanded by purchasing several manufacturers of laboratory equipment. From this moment on, Cole Parmer was able to offer a wide range of products, many of which were modified and improved due to customer feedback. Today, the company’s headquarters are located at Vernon Hills, Illinois (USA). Nevertheless, their aims did not change:

Providing their customers with reliable products and with first-class support.

The 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler

As PCR technology is used with increased frequency in all kinds of laboratories, Cole Parmer developed a suitable thermal cycler for all purposes that requires much less space as many other thermal cyclers with similar capacities. The 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler will be the right device for all labs, which do research in molecular biology and medicine or which perform routine diagnostics involving DNA and RNA investigations. This personal thermal cycler provides the option to change between heating blocks that accommodate 24 0.2 ml reaction tubes (compatible with 8-well strips) and those that can hold up to 18 0.5 ml reaction tubes. In order to prevent condensation in the tubes, temperature of the heated lid can be adjusted in a temperature range from 100° C to 115° C. Although the 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler is excellent value for money, it is equipped with two Peltier element blocks that provide precise heating and cooling of the probes. Therefore, this PCR cycler possesses a temperature accuracy of +/- 0.2° C at 50° C and a temperature uniformity of +/- 0.3° C at 50° C. Both the ramp rate and maximum heating rate are up to 3.0° C per second, the maximum cooling rate is 2.1° C per second. The colour touch screen with graphical display offers high user-friendliness for programming and observing PCR reactions. 1,000 programs can be stored at the machine’s memory, via USB memory space is unlimited. It does not matter if it is a research, educational or diagnostic lab, the 3 Prime Base Thermal Cycler by Cole Parmer is truly an asset for daily routine in the lab.

MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler

Star of the lab – the MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler

Exact control of temperature

In the MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler six Peltier modules work together for the most rapid increase and decrease of temperature. The thermal block that is manufactured with highest precision is equipped with numerous temperature sensors – their feedback to the microprocessor guarantees exact control and hence an uniform temperature distribution and accuracy. The user may choose between two modes of temperature control. In the mode of block control the temperature of the thermal block is used for adjusting the operation control of heating and cooling. In the second mode called tube control the temperature of the actual sample is determined using elaborate calculation software. In this way sample volumes can be considered in order to prevent overregulation of heating and cooling and to support rapid temperature in the sample.

Easy to program

It is self-explanatory to program the MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler. The easy-to-read large LCD screen provides the user with alphanumeric characters and displays program steps graphically. The on-screen instructions are easy to follow and make the process of programming as easy as pie. For a quick start the MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler is equipped with several popular pre-programmed PCR protocols that can be easily edited according to individual requirements. Just use the arrow keys to navigate to the required parameter and type in the new value. There is enough space for storage of up to 99 programs that can be organized in individual password protected folders or in public folders.

Easy to use

No matter if protocols with a single temperature step or superior programs with numerous steps and cycles are to be performed, the MultiGene Gradient Thermal Cycler will master them all. Set-up is user-friendly as it is possible to program an automatic increase or decrease of time or temperature of a particular protocol step during following program cycles. This feature is really helpful if it comes to enzyme depletion in extending annealing times and “touchdown” protocols. It is even possible to pause the program once it has been started. Users keep the track of everything because current temperature and time of each step is displayed during the run. The MultiGene Gradient thermal cycler performs an automatic calculation of program duration and for exact documentation the last run’s log can be displayed or downloaded.

The gradient function

The elaborate temperature control does not provide only uniform and accurate temperature distribution across the complete block but it also features the possibility of using a temperature gradient. This gradient allows horizontal spreading of twelve temperatures that can be tested at the same time. Just choose the maximum and minimum temperature with a maximum spread of 24°C across the block and the gradual temperatures for each row are calculated and displayed automatically.

The intelligent heated lid

All MultiGene Gradient thermal cyclers are provided with a standard lid that can be individually adjusted for the perfect fit with tubes of different height and even plates. The latter are protected by a compression mat, which ensures uniform distribution of pressure. Lid temperature can be programmed for optimizing results. For safety reasons and for better accessibility, the lid automatically slides back. Last but not least the lid can be easily turned over when it has to be cleaned.
